Who I Am

I learned how to sew at Studio Bernina under the tutelage of Susan Igou, a master tailor. After studying costume design at Baylor University, I managed a tailoring company that specialized in weddings and pageants. My experience in couture tailoring, theatre, and industrial sewing has given me a unique understanding of what custom clothing and fiber arts can contribute to the world.

Sewing is both an art and a science. Kind of like beautiful engineering. Every garment has been made by hand. Even if it was sold for $5, humans were heavily involved in its creation, and their work is valuable.

Fast fashion has disconnected us from the process of making clothes and how quality clothing feels and wears. I want to reconnect people with their bodies, the craft of making clothes, and the life cycle of the physical materials we use every day.

My guiding principles are:

  1. Renewable, natural, long-lasting materials and practices are the ideal, but I will use all goods in some way to prevent waste.

  2. Good clothes should fit YOU. You do not try to fit into the clothes.

  3. Empowering people with the skills to create and care for their clothes and fabric goods benefits the person, the community and the planet.

I look forward to seeing you soon!
