Who I Am
I learned how to sew at Studio Bernina under the tutelage of Susan Igou, a master tailor. After studying costume design at Baylor University, I managed a tailoring company that specialized in weddings and pageants. My experience in couture tailoring, theatre, and industrial sewing has given me a unique understanding of what custom clothing and fiber arts can contribute to the world.
Sewing is both an art and a science. Kind of like beautiful engineering. Every garment has been made by hand. Even if it was sold for $5, humans were heavily involved in its creation, and their work is valuable.
Fast fashion has disconnected us from the process of making clothes and how quality clothing feels and wears. I want to reconnect people with their bodies, the craft of making clothes, and the life cycle of the physical materials we use every day.
My guiding principles are:
- Renewable, natural, long-lasting materials and practices are the ideal, but I will use all goods in some way to prevent waste.
- Good clothes should fit YOU. You do not try to fit into the clothes.
- Empowering people with the skills to create and care for their clothes and fabric goods benefits the person, the community and the planet.
I look forward to seeing you soon!
